IsItTrue is built on a simple principle: you should be able to verify claims without giving anything away in the process. This policy explains exactly what happens to your data when you use the service — in plain language, without legalese.
Who we are
IsItTrue (operating at isittrue.xyz) is an AI-powered fact-checking tool. You paste an article URL or a piece of text; our pipeline extracts checkable claims, retrieves evidence from public sources, and returns verdicts from multiple independent AI models.
The service is completely free. We do not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or submit any personal information to use it.
What we collect — and what we don't
When you submit an investigation, we derive a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) from your input and store the finished investigation result against that hash in MongoDB Atlas for up to 24 hours. This cache exists solely to avoid re-running identical investigations.
If your input is pasted text, the raw text itself is never written to our database — only its hash is. If your input is a URL, the URL is stored alongside the result so the same report can be served again without repeating the API calls.
We do not collect: • Names, email addresses, or any personal identifiers. • Browser fingerprints or device identifiers. • IP addresses (beyond what standard web server logs capture transiently during the request). • Cookies, advertising identifiers, or cross-site tracking signals.
We do not run analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.) on this site.
How your content is used
Your submitted URL or text is sent to third-party AI model APIs (such as OpenAI, Google, and DeepSeek) and an evidence-retrieval API (Tavily) in order to produce the investigation report. Each of these providers processes your input under their own terms of service and privacy policies.
By using IsItTrue, you acknowledge that content you submit may be transmitted to these providers to fulfil your request. We recommend you do not submit content that includes private personal information.
We have no commercial relationship with these providers beyond API usage and do not share any user-level data with them beyond what is necessary to process a request.
Caching & retention
Cached investigation results are automatically deleted after 24 hours via a database TTL index. No investigation data is retained beyond that window.
If the database is unavailable, your investigation still completes — results stream directly to your browser without being cached, and nothing is stored at all.
Third-party services
The following third-party services are involved in processing a request:
• OpenAI (GPT-4o) — language model inference • Google (Gemini) — language model inference • DeepSeek — language model inference • Tavily — web search and evidence retrieval • MongoDB Atlas — ephemeral caching (hosted in the EU/US depending on your cluster region) • Google Fonts — typography (loaded at page render via fonts.googleapis.com)
Each provider is subject to its own privacy policy. We do not control how they handle data once transmitted.
No accounts, no payment data
IsItTrue currently has no user accounts, login system, or payment processing. We do not store passwords, payment card numbers, or any financial data.
If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated and users will be notified clearly.
Children's privacy
IsItTrue is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our service, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data tied to an identity, most data-subject rights (access, correction, deletion) do not apply in the traditional sense — there is no account or profile to retrieve or delete.
If you have a specific concern about data you believe we may hold relating to you, contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of IsItTrue after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
